Amazon Home All The Way

Amazon is definitely one of my favorite places to shop, how about you? What all do you go to Amazon for? We definitely use it when we need things fast, but honestly we look to it for just about all types of purposes, but I think Home sometimes gets overlooked! These are some fun updates/conveniences we have purchased lately all through Amazon for our home.

Rug Pad

This rug pad can be found at lots of different retailers, but Amazon had the best price (and fastest shipping) when I was looking, so it was an easy decision. I needed a pad for a new runner I got from Anthroplogie that I am so so so excited about.

I saved up some gift cards, and waited for a sale, and I could not be happier with this rug so far. It is so beautiful in person and I think it is another fresh floral addition I just can’t seem to get enough of. I think it makes a statement, and ties into my curtains while also bringing in lots of other colors so I don’t get stuck with my breakfast nook becoming the “pink” room. Although, that doesn’t sound so bad?!

New Kitchen Gadget

This might be strange, but I have been wanting corn-shaped corn holders for a long time. You know, the ones that look like corn? I never saw them, or when I did, I didn’t want to pay for them. We have managed thus far in life with no corn holders whatsoever, but when I checked Amazon recently and saw these, for that price, I bought two sets! They are a smidge smaller in person than I had in mind (does that happen to you?), but they work fine so far and are the retro corn look I had in mind from what we used growing up and my parents still have! We have been tossing them in the silverware caddy of the dishwasher, and no issues so far. Now, when we get to entertain, corn holders for everyone!!!!!

Keeping the Sofa

Velvet pillow cases are awesome. They feel good, hold up to children, and wash up well. I have two black and white ones that are years old from IKEA that I still love and I think they look brand new!

We recently bought a new sofa, also IKEA, and when we did so we moved our old one into the Art Center. That’s the name that has been sticking for this “room” in our very open-concept living area. The plan was to get rid of or sell the old sofa. While I was at IKEA with my sister, my husband had the kiddos help move everything out of the family room and vacuum. He placed the sofa in the Art Center facing the green cabinets, and I was just like huh. I never thought. Isn’t that funny? Sometimes you just need a new perspective!

So, we have been living it with for a while and I am loving having it in it’s new spot. It sort of defines the space more, making it more of a room. Like it is a wall almost? And, it is really nice and the perfect height to sit on when coloring or crafting with the kids. Much more comfortable for an adult!

New Sofa Cover

But, it still desperately needs new covers. Even though it will likely get drawn on. This is the Pottery Barn Comfort Sofa Square Arm. We could get a new cover, but it would be a thousand dollars or more, yikes. Especially to be so close to markers and paint. I received some fabric samples from one website in particular. They make slipcovers for Pottery Barn and IKEA. I will fill you in more later on them after my experiences. Which would you pick? You might be surprised (or not) at what color I’m leaning towards…

How many hidden mickeys can you find in this pic, ha?!

Amazon Home Pillow Covers

But anyways back to the Amazon home purchase. I needed something that “went” a little better in this room. I wanted velvet to go with the IKEA ones, and for durability. So, I looked at a lot of sizes and colors (plenty of options!) and settled on these turquoise pillow covers. They just look like they were here all along! I already had pillows to stuff inside, so it was pretty instant gratification. That’s what Amazon is best at, right? I’ve bought velvet pillow covers from Amazon in the past too, red for Christmas and orange for fall! The price makes them so easy to justify swapping around. Makes the seasons more fun!

New Kitchen Storage

We also added some new cabinetry to our breakfast nook thanks to none other than…. IKEA! These cabinets are HUGE. I am so excited about the storage they have added for us. They are nice and tall so I can decorate without worrying about little hands.

Acrylic Cabinet Pulls

I did not love the knobs that came with them. Nothing wrong with them, just didn’t love them. I wanted them to tie into my home more, so I decided to change the knobs. New hardware even on new furniture is always an easy way to add some flair or make something go with your space more. We have acrylic and polished chrome on our cabinets and our big curtain rod over the window. I didn’t want it to be the exact same as what I have in the kitchen either though since it definitely isn’t a match or built ins.

I love the acrylic cabinet pulls (and their price) I found! This is another reason I love Amazon home stuff, they have so many options and look-a-like choices, including some in their own Amazon Basics brand too.

I only needed 8 pulls so I tried to find the best deal based on that. My husband drilled another hole to make them work. We went with the existing hole and up above so its a little higher which is actually more comfortable to grab. They have worked out great. I think they elevate the IKEA furniture and really help it belong in this space better. The pull style works out nicely for the accordion style cabinet doors which also work out nicely with always having our table extended and not a ton of space in between the two. Win win! I am not sure how LEGO creations keep ending up on top of here though!? I’d like to blame it on one of my four children, but…….

Sconce

Henry got another little upgrade to his room. I am so happy with how this sconce worked out. We have a pretty bright bulb in it right now. He often turns the light upwards, ha! It is so nice for him to have a reading light. Now, he can turn it off when he starts to get sleepy without climbing out of his bed. The wood tones, and black and white all tie in to his room so well. I don’t know why, but I thought this light looked better in person than the online picture or maybe what I was expecting. Amazon Home for the win for sure! Super happy with this purchase, and was super easy (for my husband) to install! Read on!

Macrame Hanging Planters

Last, but certainly not least are these fun little macrame hanging planters! I have a pothos in my laundry room. I grew this little guy from cuttings from my largest pothos. They are so fun to propagate!

I have been trying to have a little plant life in every room. But, lately I have also been trying to fold laundry IN my laundry room. Crazy, I know. Where do you fold laundry? I often do it on our bed…which is the worst when you go to sleep at night and realized you never finished and have to clear the bed. However, I can see the kids in the back from our bedroom which is awesome. I can’t see anybody when I am in the laundry room…which is also awesome sometimes, ha! Depends on my mood ;). Or theirs!

When we redid this laundry room one of the things I was most excited about was have a big long countertop. Sadly, I usually only move junk piles to it. But, not anymore, or not for right now, haha.

So, my plant needed to be out of the way. It just seemed like the right space for a hanging plant. I don’t have any indoors right now, do you? They might look cute in my breakfast nook where the window insets, but anyway…I looked at a bunch and settled on this one. Two of the planters I gifted to plant friends and am hoping we all have happy, healthy plants hanging out!

Planting

When I planted it I was a little nervous about how I am going to water it without making a mess. These came with little trays which is great and should help. I don’t want to have any spills over the top either so I also planted it lower in the pot if that makes sense? Our ceilings are also very tall even in our laundry room, so I will have to use a stool to water this guy. Kind of a pain, huh? Anything for plants though…our hall bathroom is very close and we have a children’s stool in there (or are supposed to…) so I have been grabbing that to water this guy. Not too bad, but I am also tall so that helps as well. Do you have any hanging planter watering tips or warnings?! Any pothos fans?

Amazon Home Safety

I almost forgot one of our best recent Amazon finds for the home! And it is truly a life-saver! My husband and I actually have our Amazon accounts disconnected so we don’t see each others purchases. This way if we want to order birthday, Christmas, anniversary, etc. without the other seeing we can! It was very simple to do and I also kind of like it because then when I am in my account it really is the things that apply to me. Does that make sense?

However, this little safety lock for deadbolts was definitely a gift for both of us, ha! Our fourth, Hank, is definitely a runner. And he is tall, too. And he can lock and unlock any and all of our doors. We were about ready to get one of the tall locks you have to screw into the door when Barry found and bought this. It has been awesome so far. You do have to make sure you keep the door locked, otherwise it doesn’t do anything, but we always keep our front door locked. We have definitely had to do more child-proofing with Hank than with our others. I think it is part personality and part there are four of them now!!! I will update if he figures out how to do it, or how to break it off…yikes! So far so good.

And You

What have you been working on in your home? Any good finds on Amazon? It is really fun to look at Amazon home stuff. If you haven’t given it a try, take a look. Please do share any fun finds! And of course any life-savers!!! I will be back (soon this time!) to share some of my gardening failures and successes with you!
