I love using color! I definitely think if you came into my home you would see that. With the exception of my bedroom which is a white escape. Need to have a blank slate to relax somewhere! Remember, I have four kids! I love shopping online, and seeing what’s new in stores. Lately, I have been drawn to all the colorful home decor. I also thought about all the colorful things we already have or use. Here are some things I think could be a bright addition to your home or for your children!

Abacus

The abacus is a super fun toy, and educational tool to have. It also looks fun displayed in a kid’s bedroom or a playroom. We have had ours a long time and still find fun new things to do and play with it, in addition to its main purpose! The colorful beads are just icing on the cake!

Origami Paper

So, we recently dabbled in origami. I thought it was going to be super fun, but I think it is probably better suited for older kiddos. I had hopes of creating a rainbow display in Henry’s rooms of paper cranes, but we ended up with one fun colorful chain that I hung from his ceiling for now. Depending on your child, their ability, and their interest I think 8 and up would be better suited. It still made for a fun afternoon activity, and I also learned that if I make a 1000 of those paper cranes it is good luck! We have a ways to go, haha! However, the paper is fun and bright colors and we will surely use it for crafts, and hopefully some more origami in the future. I remember being really into origami as a kid, anyone else?! Mavalus Tape is doing the trick holding it on the ceiling. We had been out for a while, and I was trying to use other tapes we had around the house, but nothing else seems to hold and not damage like this stuff.

Wooden Rainbow Toy

These stacking wooden rainbow toys are so fun and playful. I love that they are an open-ended toy. They look so sweet on top of a cabinet or displayed in some way. There are some fancy versions of these, but these fit the bill for us and have been a baby toy that is fun for all ages, always a win!

Washi Tape

You’ve already heard me talk about washi tape, and even though it drives me nuts finding it all over the house and sometimes on the underside of my foot, it’s a winner. They find so many things to make and create with it, who doesn’t love that kind of creativity? If you don’t have any, I definitely recommend starting with a colorful set like these, but they make so many kinds that the possibilities are endless!

Rainbow Craft Kit

We don’t own this particular set, but have bought and been gifted several things from Kid Made Modern, and they do not disappoint! We have also given them as birthday gifts! They are so fun, and good quality. They usually come with some craft ideas, too. I love the rainbow theme from this set and it reminds me of a craft idea I saw on Pinterest that I am dying to try! Doesn’t that look so sweet and fun? We did make a rainbow for Henry’s bedroom window at the beginning of Covid that turned out pretty sweet. We just used tissue paper, and watered down glue. It was fun even for Elle who at the time had just turned 3, but also fun even for Henry who was 7.

Wrapping Paper

I ordered this wrapping paper because it is classic birthday colorful colors. I have birthday banners I made for my son’s first birthday that we put up pretty much every birthday. They work nicely because they have all the colors, like this paper! So they always “go” with the theme or party. Yay! This paper was also great for Valentine’s Day and I wrapped each kid a present in the pastel stripe. I think it would have worked well for Easter too, but I just used gift bags this year. I am not really shopping much in stores right now (Covid), but I have used Hallmark wrapping paper in the past and knew I liked the weight and how it cuts! Have you ever bought wrapping paper that, well, stinks!? No fun!

Throw

I really love this throw and all the colors in it. We don’t own this one, but I have been eyeing it for a while. I think it would brighten up a space and could be fun year round. There is another colorway too, if you are interested. Some of our blankets are more “Christmasy” but we love them and use them year round. My sister just asked me this the other day, if her blanket was too wintry. Do you change out your throws for the season? Maybe I would if my kids didn’t like to use ALL. THE. BLANKETS. Or maybe I should…so they can’t do that!?

Yarn Wall Hanging

How sweet would this rainbow yarn wall hanging be in a kids room or a nursery? I think it would be adorable hanging on the wall, but also cute hanging on a door knob or little dresser knob. This also comes in different colorways so you could find something that works best for your space easily! We do not own this, and I have not gifted it to anyone, but I do think it would make a sweet gift, maybe even for a baby shower?

Wool Rug

I have had this post started for a while (before spring even began, yikes), but we have March madness with two kiddo’s birthdays, and then Easter, and it just didn’t happen. But, anyways, when I did start this post I did not own this pretty wool rug. But, now I do. Oops!!! We have been wanting a new couch for a while now, and finally made it to IKEA to get it. More on that later! This rug made it’s way into the cart as well. The colors in this rug are just too perfect for our kid space or lately I have been calling it our art center. I was worried it would be too small, but it actually fits really nicely. We haven’t had it too long, but I will update you sometime on how it holds up and works in our very used space.

Pillow

I found this pillow when I was working on this post and really love it! All the texture on it is so unique. Although it is very colorful I think it still has a muted look and could be fun in a family space in addition to a kid’s room. Extra points for having a removable insert!

Doormat

This doormat did not make it into my IKEA cart for some reason, shucks. I actually have rugs right now for my front and backdoor so I don’t need it. But, they are often things that need to be replaced from wear and tear! That’s why the price of this rug is also nice! I like the shape a lot too, and there are a lot of rainbow doormats I found from various stores and Amazon, but for some reason this one is extra charming to me.

Kitchen Towel

This little kitchen towel is so happy! Great encouragement for kids to eat healthy (and adults too, ugh). I think it is a great way to talk about healthy choices in a way they can understand, and also it’s just fun! We do really well with fruit at this house, and decent at veggies. Occasionally I do fun things like this. You can see their favorites clearly, but I think they might have eaten more veggies than if I were to give them theirs on a plate!

This and That!

What kind of rainbows do you have around your house? Does anybody have a rainbow prism in their window? I first heard about this from Young House Love, but never bought one. Then, when we were cleaning out the office I saw a little prism we already had that the kids found at the park or something one day. It already had a hole in it, too. So, we thread some fishing line on it and hung it in our breakfast window. We have loved watching the rainbows come through in the morning time so much. It really brings so much joy, and is especially adorable when our babies start pointing out the rainbows and get excited about them!

We also just celebrated Elle’s 4th birthday and bought her this adorable dress. Her favorite color is yellow! We bought the big yellow hair bows for pigtails, too. She got princess crowns, wands, and rings as well! I actually bought the party favor pack and only gave her a few. I am hoping this saves on the Krazy Glue repair time…do you know what I mean!?

Rainbow Dress

And, what’s a rainbow with out a little sunshine!? We have been working hard getting our front beds ready for spring, and are adding lots of colorful flowers. Meanwhile, in the back we have added a little shade to the sandbox area with the colorful rainbow umbrella. So far I am really impressed with it for the price. We are hoping it can withstand the wind we get around here! Wishing you lots and lots of sunny days this spring! And, maybe a little shade too :)!
