Playroom Vibes Moody Monday

Working on some playroom vibes for this gorgeous Monday we are having! My friend is working on her upstairs playroom and I am helping a little bit. It is a big space and serves a lot of purposes for their family. It is so nice to be able to dedicate a big space, but even if you don’t have a room to call a playroom, these are some playful pieces that could bring playroom vibes to any space in your home!

Playroom Inspiration

When I am working on a room I usually like to have some kind of inspiration. Doesn’t have to be anything monumental or special, but something to just get the ball rolling. My friend sent this picture of artwork from a book club subscription service her children receive, Literati. She has some of the prints and wants to hang them in her playroom. So cute. When I saw them I LOVED them and just ran with it. They are very colorful, so very much my style, but she said she wanted color in this space too, yay!

Starting Piece

After I had something to go from, I started looking for all the fun detail pieces that help make a room feel complete and homey. I love all things Rifle Paper Co. because I love flowers so much, but I just felt like this pillow took so many colors from the print inspirations and was perfect. It is pricey, but would make a statement and actually is a very generous size!

Playroom Pillows

These pillows are all so fun and different and pull from the art prints and floral pillow. I think the fuzzy one would be cozy on a bench or chair under her window. But, since it’s a playroom they will likely be all over the place, ha! And I think they would all look good anywhere in the room, bonus! They are all very budget friendly, too. Walmart, Target, and World Market are definitely places I check first because they are very affordable, and I have had good luck with quality too!

Rolling Cushions

How cool are these rolling cushions?! I originally saw the pink and thought they were so fun and went perfectly. Then, I saw the other color-way and though it was just as good. So, why not both? They seem super flexible and multi-purposeful, perfect for a playroom. There are a good amount of reviews and four stars, so although I think they look like something that could be a flop, I think they would be worth a shot!

Playroom Curtains

Also from Target, these curtains. I think they are so so stylish. They would look cool in the room I’m scheming for Hank too, did you check that out? BUT, the curtains from Walmart came in stock and I ordered! They came over the weekend and look so cool, lots of texture. I love when something comes and is better than you thought. Pictures online are great, but of course you can’t tell until it is in your hands. I do love review pictures though, I think they help more, don’t you? So back to THESE curtains. They could work in so many spaces and I love that they come in those longer lengths that a lot of us need. Remember to always hang your curtains higher and wider when possible!

Stools

One of the things we were trying to make work in my friend’s playroom were some existing cabinets she had that were painted green. I thought if we added plenty of variations of different green tones it would help incorporate them better.

I was looking for some kind of small activity or craft table and thought stools would be more space conscious. At my house we have and use these round stools from IKEA for all sorts of things, love that they stack too. Looks like they might not make our round ones anymore, but that’s what made me start my search at IKEA.

When I saw green stools I got so excited! I thought their unique shape was very playful, too. Then, when I saw they came in TWO green shades I got maybe over excited, ha! They might be what replaced our stools, ours are the pine wood. There is also a bright blue, black and white if you are interested.

Playroom Table

Speaking of tables, I thought a drop leaf table would work really well in her space.

I have one I found at an antique shop a long time ago. It has served so many purposes for us. When I was hemming and hawing over whether or not to buy it my mom INSISTED that I do. She was not wrong :). I liked the price and look of this Walmart one. I also like the idea of nothing too precious. Remember our playroom table…!?!?

Playroom Focal Point Wall

This is the look I envisioned for the wall you see when you walk in her playroom. It has a big beautiful window that they want to frame with storage. They also wanted a window seat that provided storage, too. I liked the look of this bench instead.

Now she is thinking about maybe even two chairs…and she has a special rocking chair so maybe just that and a little side table!? It is always a process figuring out what you want, what will work, what fits the budget, and these days what won’t take eternity to ship! It will be a sweet reading spot for sure. Curtains will definitely soften the look and make it more inviting. I think inexpensive sconces that plug in (no added electrical expense or hassle and easily hidden by bookcases) would be a charming touch.

Entertainment Wall

They also need an entertainment center or wall. Who doesn’t love trying to hide all those cords and consoles ;)!? I thought a handful of cabinets pushed together would work well to maximize storage which was a huge need. I picked these out and thought the consoles could sit on top and be more accessible and then you don’t have to worry about them fitting, all the cords, etc. Also, it MIGHT deter toddler from reaching or messing with them as easily, but we all know there is truly no stopping them!

They didn’t love this idea and it doesn’t work for them, but I still think it’s neat and thought it might speak to one of you! Don’t forget if you don’t love the hardware or it doesn’t go as well with your room that is an easy and sometimes fun swap.

Lamps

How cool are these Studio McGee lamps from Target!? They look so beefy to me although I haven’t seen them in person. I was really surprised at their price, too! I love lamps. I love a pair of lamps. You can’t have too many lamps. My husband disagrees.

Playroom Rug

I’ve seen this rug before and I just think it can work in so many spaces. I was considering it for my playroom! I ultimately decided on this one and we have loved it so far. For my friend’s playroom, this rug paired especially well with all the colors, with room for more! I think the muted tones are great since it is a space not just for kiddos. It comes in a lot of sizes and it reasonably priced. It will also hide stains from crafts, food, drinks, kids, dogs, whatever! It is not especially think, so to cozy it up I would order an extra thick rug pad. We did that in our family room and it has worked out great.

What do you think?

Do you like the playroom vibes I came up with? Do you have a playroom? Are you working on a mood board for a space in your home? I’m still trying to think about where I could put that floral pillow in my own house!!!
