Valentine’s Day is a couple weeks away! I wanted to post this a bit early for you in case you wanted to do anything new around your home. We do not do a ton of decor, but even little touches can be special. The kids always LOVE seasonal decor, too. Last year we added to our Valentine’s Day festivities by doing a craft together. It was a lot of fun and I am excited to pull them out again this year. I will wait until February 1st for that, though. But, if you want something now is the time so it can ship in time!
Pillows or Throws for February
Always an easy way to change the seasons or celebrate a holiday in your home! Pillow covers are easy to swap out, small to store, and can be very affordable. I think they also make a big impact! I found a lot of cute Valentine’s Day Pillows from Target and Amazon, but this Target one is my fav. Must be the flowers!
We have some winter and Christmas pillows out because I think they are still cozy and festive for winter. Come February I will take the snowy ones, but leave any plain red. My daughter has a light pink velvet pillow case I might steal and bring to our window bench. For now I have a red buffalo check pillow there. My breakfast nook is basically ready for Valentine’s Day between our pink curtains and the new dining chairs we got that are red.
It is still winter so throws are a great and purposeful accessory! If you have any red or pink throws they would be use. Even if you have to steal them from another room for a bit ;).
Valentine’s Day Banner
I love banners. Simple, festive, and inexpensive. They also do not take a lot of space to store! You can make your own banner easily, too. Do you remember mine? Super simple and fun to make. It looks pretty across a window for the whole month of February. I love this simple hearts banner from Amazon. I see them everywhere though from Target, craft stores, even the grocery stores. I don’t always think to check Party City, but this curtain banner is so sweet and fun. I love the “curtain” idea and it reminds me of our curtain lights we got for Christmas that we are all still so obsessed with. I said we would take them down at the end of February and I’m going to be so sad.
Both of these banners would be fun to make with your kiddos too, lots of possibilities!
Faux Stems for February
I have been having more fun with faux stems lately. Is that thing? Just me? I like a clustered look of all the same kind. In my entryway, I have a West Elm vase I put some in. Further down in my hallway (it is kind of a long entryway) I have some World Market pottery that hold faux hydrangeas. Then, I have my trusty big white pitcher from IKEA I like to use for them, it is also the perfect vase for a grocery store bouquet without having to do much rearranging.
I’m not trying to spend too much on Valentine’s Day decor around here, but if I were I would add these faux cherry blossom branches. I love cherry blossoms so much. They’re so delicate and promising of spring. Such a pretty pink! They should be easy to find at your local craft store as well.
Vase and/or Real Flowers
Don’t forget the power of real flowers! They do NOT have to be expensive, and you do not have to store them, haha! They won’t last forever of course, but try to change that water daily and some like my fav carnations can last a good two weeks. The yellow ones from my New Year post actually made it 3 weeks! We have some pretty sunflowers now.
If you don’t want to buy flowers, a beautiful vase can make quite a statement. How sweet if this one from Anthro? With real flowers, faux flowers, or no flowers this would be darling in the center of a table or styled in a little vignette.
Trying not to spend? Check your cabinets! What do you have up there? Anything pink and red? Pull it out and use it! If not, grab a clear one and spend $5 on red or pink flowers your next grocery store trip and call it a day. You won’t regret it, I promise!
Wreath
This wreath is gorgeous. It is definitely pricey, but I do hope it would last forever! Even though it is perfect for February, it would definitely work for the following months and spring as well. I love the clustered look of the flowers just like I do in an arrangement.
We are using a winter wreath for the moment, but I can’t get the command hooks to stay. I think I need to get up there and nail some ribbon from the top of the door. I actually found a wreath at Hobby Lobby for spring when I was Christmas shopping. I will wait until March sometime to hang mine though. Do you like having a wreath on you front door? I think they are so welcoming, but haven’t found any I liked really until this last year. I think they really brighten our front porch, which I have found difficult to “decorate.”
February Kid’s Art
If you have little ones in school you have the best decor ready to go! Our preschool makes so many sweet crafts. We usually display them somewhere, and I have my older kiddos’ saved and keep it all together. They don’t make as much art, and especially crafts in elementary school. I have been using our pantry doors lately to display the art coming home from school. I haven’t updated our hallways art in a while because I like the art thats up there, HA. I did get their school pics updated though, and added Hank :)!
Last year we crafted, do you remember!? It was really fun and now we will have those to pull out and decorate with. I saw them at Target again this year if you are interested. Online I only see them as a set of one. But several choices!
I’ve really been liking their new Mondo Llama line, lots of fun affordable artsy activities! It has been fun to see the seasonal things, but also they have had great things all year. We got my son the wooden tiger for Christmas and it was a hit! It looks really cool in his room.
Candles
I am a sucker for a candle. I just love them so much. Volcano is definitely my favorite, and this pink color is adorable. Have you tried the dupe at Walmart? It comes in a red that would be great for February as well. I really liked it, but I didn’t find it had the same “throw” as the Capri Blue ones. I would buy it again though :)!
February Kitchen Things
We do not have any reusable Valentine plates or mugs, but I do usually buy some fun paper products to use on the day. It also makes for a day of less dishes for me, yay! I found mine this year at Walmart, they are a little more youthful which I thought was fun. The Spritz line at Target had some cute ones, and so did our local grocery store HEB, but these were the winners for me. When I was shopping around for you all this was my favorite thing I spied. Would make a sweet gift for someone else or for you!
Gifts
Do you exchange gifts? Or give gifts? We are a little bit more random so it just depends.
I have found though that my children really love giving and receiving gifts. I don’t think it is a top love language for me, but like at birthday parties they are always so disappointed when they don’t open their gift, which seems to be the norm these days. So, I am trying to recognize that it makes them feel loved even though I don’t want more “stuff” and certainly don’t want them to be (or more importantly act) spoiled!
I haven’t decided if I will get them something this year or not, and can’t share too much since my son is one of my few readers, ha! But, if we do I know I will get something like this for Elle. She is the only kiddo that doesn’t have a pop-it and so I thought it was perfect. Those things really are fun! Otherwise I am thinking books or something consumable.
Your Home
So what does February look like in your home? Any decor changes? Will you give any gifts? Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday this year, and is a school day. I bought some of these for breakfast. Maybe not exciting to some, but we normally stick to Corn Chex and plain Cheerios, so it will be special, and festive! And easy and quick!
Sometimes we bake cookies or cupcakes. I am even seeing gingerbread houses themed for Vday out there! But, I think this year we will make this yummy treat. Somebody in our family usually make it at Christmas time, and we didn’t this year. I think it will be perfect. Do you bake anything?
Are you ready for spring or holding on to winter? My tulips are popping up and I’m definitely ready for spring flowers. I don’t mind the cozy clothes a bit longer, though.
